What is the VACT Development Junior Academy?
The VACT Junior Academy is a training squad that is designed to provide a training environment for athletes to improve their volleyball skills, their understanding of the game and their confidence on the court.
The Academy will run on Monday & Thursday afternoons from 4:00pm – 5:15pm in Term 3 (10 week program) 2023. All sessions will be at the National Hockey Centre, Lyneham.
What can I expect to learn in the Academy program?
The Academy aims to holistically develop junior volleyball athletes. The program will provide guidance on basic skills, court awareness and understanding, working as a team, and having fun.
The Academy hopes to build on athletes’ current skill levels in order to progress towards playing at a higher level in the ACT and beyond.
The program will compliment the training that athletes are currently receiving at their clubs.
When are the trials?Volleyball ACT are hosting an open trials on the following dates:
- Monday 26th June 4pm – 5:15pm
- Thursday 29th June 4pm - 5:15pm
All sessions at the National Hockey Centre, Lyneham. These sessions are open any athlete between the ages of 10 and 15 years of age.
Do I need to attend all of the trial sessions? No, but the more we see of you, the better.
Do I need volleyball experience to attend the trials? While experience is great, you do not need any previous volleyball experience to come along to the trials.
Does it cost anything to trial? No, it is free to trial.
If I am unable to attend the trials, what should I do? If you are unable to attend either of the trials but would still like to be considered for the Academy, please submit your Expression of Interest to Erica (athletes@volleyballact.com.au).
If I am selected in the Academy, what is the commitment?
The cost of the program will be $165 per athlete.
As the Academy will be considered a talent squad, it will be expected that you attend both sessions during the week. VACT understands that you may have other Volleyball commitments (school, club, state teams etc.). Please discuss this with your clubs prior to committing to the program.
