Please see below a statement from Volleyball Australia regarding Schools Cup

Volleyball Australia, in consultation with Tourism & Events Queensland and City of Gold Coast, has regrettably decided to cancel the 2020 Australian Volleyball Schools Cup, Australian Volleyball League and Elite Development Camp scheduled to be held on the Gold Coast in early December.

After extensive consultation across a wide range of school, government and venue partners, this difficult decision has been made in response to a number of insurmountable challenges relating to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The current uncertainty regarding the opening of state and territory borders, the protocols and processes required of event owners and the potential for mass isolation and even quarantine in the event of an individual presenting with symptoms, is far too great a risk to consider proceeding with the event.

Our commitment to the safety of our community also played a significant role in this decision. While providing opportunities for our junior athletes to showcase their talents and develop skills on the national stage is central to Volleyball Australia’s mission, the safety and well-being of our players, coaches, parents, supporters, staff and volunteers is also a fundamental commitment to the participants of our sport.

We are deeply saddened to have made this decision and apologise for any inconvenience and the considerable disappointment this outcome may cause.

We encourage you to look forward to 2021 and the Australian Beach Volleyball Schools Cup on 30 April – 2 May and the 37th Australian Volleyball Schools Cup on 5 – 11 December on the Gold Coast.
