Message from VACT President Dan Williams
Dear Members,
This week the Chief Minister announced that from 19 June 2020 the ACT will enter Phase 2.2 of recommendations for community sports.
Importantly for us, the Volleyball Community, Phase 2.2 allows further re-activation of indoor sporting activities and venues. It also increases the allowable number of people to 100 participants/players plus coach or instructor in both the outdoor and indoor setting.
Please do remember that these rules are set with the intention to avoid virus spread and facilitate contact tracing. Where possible, we will be overly cautious for the continuing safety of the community – we ask for a common sense and patient approach from our community.
What does this mean for us?
Indoor Volleyball
From 19 June 2020 the court usage for training will change at the Lyneham Hockey Centre. If your club or group needs to book a court please contact Volleyball ACT. The current intention is to offer one night a week to a club to train – with a maximum of 100 people. Clubs that have their own training venues e.g. AIS, Universities or School Gyms would need to comply with individual venue restrictions and Volleyball ACT guidelines.
Beach Volleyball
From 19 June 2020 court usage for training will change at our Lyneham Beach facility allocating 1 hour training sessions. Groups would pre-register direct with Volleyball ACT to attend an allocated time slot. The model for Beach Court usage allows a maximum of 100 people in the facility.
The Office will be in contact with clubs to work through training, hygiene, and physical distancing requirements. Christine Gates will be the dedicated COVID-Liaison Officer prior to recommencing training.
For the Volleyball community we are planning for the pre competition phase to commence on approximately 1 July with a hope that competitions could possibly resume from mid-July subject to further developments.
Stay safe
Dan Williams
President
